Renzi upbeat ahead of province-scrapping Senate vote

Bill to scrap 72 provincial administrations, save 110 mln euros

(ANSA) - Rome, March 11 - Italian Premier Matteo Renzi on Tuesday said he is confident the Senate will approve his Constitutional reform bill scrapping Italy's 72 provincial administrations to save public money.

''If our bill passes tomorrow, 3,000 politicians will stop getting allowances from the Italian people once and for all'', the premier tweeted. The measure will improve public services, reduce bureaucracy, and produce initial savings of 110 million euros, the government said. Renzi promised on March 11 that his administration would have a package of Constitutional reforms that would make Italy easier and cheaper to govern ready in two weeks.
