- Reggio Emilia, March 20 - Italian police on Thursday arrested a
24-year-old man from Guastalla near Reggio Emilia who allegedly beat
and raped his 20-year-old girlfriend when she broke up with him.
The woman went to the man's house Wednesday to tell him their relationship was over, police said.
He punched her several times, broke a chair over her, pulled out clumps of her hair and raped her in a three-hour ordeal before she managed to escape and report him, police said. Italy is going through a reported epidemic of violence against women which has spurred the government to pass laws against 'femicide'.
