Mafia cold case solved after 12 years

Mob-linked businessman 'strangled, dissolved in acid in 2002'

(ANSA) - Palermo, March 19 - Italian police on Wednesday said they had cracked a 12-year-old Mafia murder thanks to new information from informants. Mafia-linked Sicilian businessman Andrea Cottone disappeared in November 2002 at Villabate near Palermo.

The informants named three members of a rival Cosa Nostra clan, two of them detained since 2005, who allegedly strangled him and dissolved his body in acid.

Police said then boss of bosses Bernardo Provenzano OK'd the hit after the killers' clan was decapitated by police.
